Every platform has different data structures, URL patterns, and export formats. We have migrated from all of these - the approach is proven, not improvised.
Six things that break in a Shopify migration when you rush it.
A DIY migration or an agency that has not done this before will miss at least three of these. Each one costs you in traffic, revenue, or customer trust.
Your WooCommerce URLs look like /product/blue-kurta. Shopify uses /products/blue-kurta. Without 301 redirects, every indexed URL returns 404. Google sees a brand new site. Rankings built over years disappear in days.
Images still pointing to the old server. The old server gets switched off. Every product listing shows broken images. A proper migration uploads all images to Shopify CDN before the old server goes offline.
Passwords are hashed and platform-specific - they cannot be migrated. If customers are not told in advance that they need to reset their password, they think their account is lost. This needs a planned communication before cutover.
Shopify supports 3 options and 100 variants per product. WooCommerce and Magento often have more. Complex variant structures need to be restructured - not just imported blindly - or products break at checkout.
The store looks perfect but checkout does not work. Razorpay not connected, shipping zones not set, tax settings incorrect. Orders start coming in on the new Shopify store - and failing at payment. Hours of lost revenue.
Historic orders left on the old platform. Your GST filings, customer purchase history, and loyalty programme data all depend on order history. Once the old server goes, it is gone unless explicitly migrated.

No more plugin conflicts
On WooCommerce a plugin update can take the checkout down. Shopify hosts the platform, so an app failing does not take the store with it, and there is no stack to patch on a Friday night.
A checkout you do not maintain
Shopify's checkout is built and tested by Shopify, with UPI and cards through Razorpay live before DNS is switched. Nothing to keep PCI compliant, nothing to rebuild when a gateway changes its API.
Images and speed handled for you
Every product image is re-uploaded to Shopify's CDN during the migration, served in modern formats at the right size, from a network you do not pay for or configure.

WooCommerce still has advantages for very complex B2B pricing, deeply customised checkout flows, or content-heavy sites where WordPress ACF is central. We will tell you honestly if Shopify is not the right move before you commit.
