How we approached it
Ship the Core. Then Layer in Trust.
We didn't try to launch every feature at once. We shipped a working core first - registration, verification, a directory, a job board - got real alumni using it, then layered in the features that make a community platform feel alive: private batch galleries, a categorised business directory, and finally the analytics and SEO work that helps the association grow the network on its own.
The role hierarchy was the hardest technical problem: a Batch Coordinator needed real authority over their own batch's data without ever being able to touch another batch's records, and every one of those boundaries had to be enforced on the server, not just hidden in the UI.
